Surveys:
Start of Semester
Please answer each survey question in a few thoughtful sentences.
1. How do you envision using art in your classroom?
I want to integrate art into my other lessons. Art can be a support for literacy, and literacy can support art education. I don't want to necessarily isolate art so that art is only created in art class. I envision art as a learning tool and support as well as a means to express oneself.
2. What do you know about integrated learning / integration?
I know that integrated learning involves using several disciplines together. As I mentioned above, one such example would be to use art and literacy together to learn a concept. Integration takes more planning by teachers, but it is often worth the extra effort.
3. Rate your comfort level in making art, and discuss.
Uneasy 1 2 3 4 5 Comfortable
I rated my comfort level in making art as a 2 because I do not see myself as much of an artist. Art has never really been my "thing."
4. Rate your comfort level in analyzing and talking about art, and discuss.
Uneasy 1 2 3 4 5 Comfortable
I am extremely uneasy analyzing and talking about art. I feel that I do not know much about art, and so analyzing art is not an easy or comfortable task for me.

End of Semester
Now that you have [almost] completed the course, please answer each survey question once more in a few thoughtful sentences.
1. How do you envision using art in your classroom?
I envision using art integration in my classroom quite often. I think having students VTS an image is a great way to introduce a new topic. I also am realizing that art can be integrated into many subjects, not just literacy. I hope to provide opportunities for students to create visual art as a way to represent their learning.
2. What do you know about integrated learning / integration?
I now know quite a bit about integrated learning. I know that although it may take more time, integrating subjects allows students to make connections between subject areas. This is much more effective than approaching each subject as a completely separate entity because students need to make connections between subjects to be successful in solving real-world issues.
3. Rate your comfort level in making art, and discuss.
Uneasy 1 2 3 4 5 Comfortable
I am much more comfortable making art because I have had more experience. I don't see myself necessarily as an artist, but I do feel comfortable enough to create exemplars for my future classroom.
4. Rate your comfort level in analyzing and talking about art, and discuss.
Uneasy 1 2 3 4 5 Comfortable
I am much more comfortable talking about art than I used to be. For example, now I feel that I could effectively lead or participate in a VTS discussion.
